ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Joachim Blichfeld powered the offence with two goals and an assist, and the San Jose Barracuda topped the Abbotsford Canucks 6-4 in the AHL Saturday.

Jayden Halbgewachs, Scott Reedy, Jake McGrew and Evan Weinger, into the empty net, also scored for San Jose (6-8-1). Nick Merkley and Jaycob Megna contributed with two assists each.

Goaltender Alexei Melnichuk was pulled after allowing four goals on 15 shots. Zachary Sawchenko stopped all 10 pucks in relief.

Phil Di Giuseppe and Will Lockwood each scored one and assisted another for the Canucks (6-7-3), which went 3 for 4 on the power play. Nic Petan and Jack Rathbone also found the back of the net.

Michael DiPietro turned away 26 shots in defeat.

The Barracuda were losing 4-3 heading into the third period before Blichfeld’s pair and Weinger’s empty-netter.

The Canucks and Barracuda are the bottom two teams in the AHL’s Pacific Division.
