Two podium finishes for WVU track and field close out Big 12s

The West Virginia track and field team concluded competition at the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a pair of top-eight finishes. Freshman Abigale Mullings finished in fifth place in the high jump competition, while redshirt junior Hayley Jackson had an All-Big 12 performance and a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter race.

McCabe is the First Mountaineer to Win the Steeplechase

Redshirt freshman Ceili McCabe led the West Virginia track and field team to its first ever first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

McCabe Named Student-Athlete of the Week

After notching a first-place finish in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia track and field team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Goetz Completes First Day at NCAA Regionals

West Virginia senior golfer Mark Goetz completed the first 18 holes of the NCAA Golf Regional at The Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, on Monday. Goetz shot a two-over-par 74 in the first round. Overall, Goetz is tied for 33rd on the individual leaderboard.

McGhin wins gold at Junior Olympic Championships

West Virginia rifle freshmen Molly McGhin and Matt Sanchez advanced to the final round of the 2021 National Junior Olympic Championship. McGhin was named the 2021 National Junior Olympic Championships women’s air rifle champion with her score of 250.1.

Mountaineers Sweep Dayton Doubleheader

The West Virginia baseball team earned a two-game sweep over Dayton in Sunday’s doubleheader at Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown. The Mountaineers topped the Flyers, 7-6, in the first game, before tallying a 12-6 win in the second game.

Rowing Finishes 2021 Season at Big 12 Championship

The West Virginia rowing team finished its 2021 season at the Big 12 Championship, hosted by Texas. The Longhorns won all four races to collect the 2021 Big 12 Rowing Championship and an NCAA automatic qualifying bid.

Smoyer Named to the USA National Futures Team

Sophomore Calista Smoyer of the West Virginia rifle team was named to the USA National Futures Team.

Mountaineers Add Schoeppl

The West Virginia women’s soccer team has added defender Lisa Schoeppl to the 2021 roster. Schoeppl is from Germany, where she played in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2016.

Jevon Carter notches double-double in first start of season for the Suns

Jevon Carter got his first career start for the Phoenix Suns in the team’s regular season finale, helping his squad to a 123-121 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. The former Mountaineer men’s basketball player notched a double-double and was just one assist away from a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.

Former Arizona State guard Remy Martin, the top-ranked transfer in the country, committed to Kansas on Monday night. Martin averaged 19.1 points and 3.7 assists last season.

Texas Tech guard and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Mac McClung has elected to forgo his remaining college eligibility and keep his name in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Marshall men’s soccer team wins championship

The Marshall men’s soccer team defeated Indiana 1-0 to win the NCAA College Cup Championship. The 10th-ranked Thundering Herd knocked off the third-ranked Hoosiers in overtime, after finishing regulation tied at 0-0.

Trainer Bob Baffert banned from entering Medina Spirit, other horses at Belmont Park

Bob Baffert was suspended Monday from entering horses at New York racetracks, pending an investigation into Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit’s failed postrace drug test.
