Two more names from the Penguins roster have been added to the NHL’s COVID-19 list,

The Penguins announced Sunday that defenseman Marcus Pettersson and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel were the latest additions to the list.

In response, the team has recalled defenseman P.O Joseph from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The latest additions to the COVID-19 list come after forward Jeff Carter recently cleared the league’s protocol and returned to the lineup.

When players enter the league’s protocol for handling the virus, they must remain in isolation for 10 days. A player can be cleared from the protocol earlier than 10 days, but they must:

  • Be vaccinated against the virus
  • Be asymptomatic
  • Test negative for the virus on two consecutive days

Recently, goalie Tristan Jarry cleared the protocol earlier than expected, presumably due to a false positive test for the virus.

Defenseman Kris Letang remains in the league’s COVID-19 protocol as well.

It’s unclear what the defensive structure may look like when the Penguins get back into action on Thursday night against the Flyers.
