Penguins to start goaltender Tristan Jarry in rematch with Capitals
The Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Tristan Jarry in Saturday’s road game against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena in Washington.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Jarry’s status via video conference.
Jarry was in net for Thursday’s 5-4 overtime road win against the Capitals. He made 33 saves on 37 shots in that contest.
This season, Jarry has appeared in 35 games and has a 22-9-3 record, a 2.75 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and one shutout.
Notes:
• Sullivan proclaimed the rest of his lineup as a “game-time decisions” when asked specifically about the availability of injured forward Evgeni Malkin.
Sidelined for the past 22 games due to a suspected right knee injury, Malkin is currently designated to long-term injured reserve.
• Malkin and forward Brandon Tanev each participated in an optional morning skate. Tanev, sidelined for the past 13 games due to an undisclosed ailment, is also designated to long-term injured reserve.
• One player Sullivan did rule out is forward Evan Rodrigues. He remains day to day due to a suspected left ankle injury he suffered during Thursday’s game.
The Penguins assigned goaltender Max Lagace from the taxi squad to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL). In eight AHL games this season, Lagace has a 4-3-1 record along with a 2.10 goals against averaged and a .911 save percentage.
• In a corresponding transaction, defenseman Josh Maniscalco was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and assigned to the taxi squad. A first-year professional, Maniscalco has played in seven AHL games this season and has no points.
• The Capitals are scheduled to start goaltender Ilya Samsonov. In 18 games this season, Samsonov has a 13-3-1 record, a 2.67 goals against average, a .903 save percentage and two shutouts.
Samsonov’s only appearance against the Penguins this season came in a 4-3 road shootout loss Jan. 17. He made 24 saves on 27 shots in that contest.
• Capitals defenseman John Carlson and forward Alex Ovechkin are each considered game-time decisions as well. Both players were absent from Thursday’s game due to undisclosed injuries.
