The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their Grammy-nominated 1995 double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, by releasing a super deluxe 6-LP vinyl edition on November 21, followed by a 4-CD box set arriving on January 9. Both collections feature the original album alongside 80 minutes of previously unreleased live recordings from the band’s 1996 tour, with a San Diego performance of “Geek USA” available to stream now. The deluxe vinyl set includes a hardbound book with new liner notes by frontman Billy Corgan, a custom tarot card deck, and lithographs. “Unearthing these live recordings from the original lineup’s true, last large-scale tour was a labour of love, and for me certainly a bittersweet as once we blew apart in 1996, we were never quite the same: be it emotionally, or spiritually,” Corgan said in a press release. To mark the milestone, Corgan will perform seven special concerts with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in November featuring newly commissioned orchestral arrangements of his classic songs.
