Bright Eyes Forced To Cancel Record Release Shows And Riot Fest Appearance

Bright Eyes Forced To Cancel Record Release Shows And Riot Fest Appearance

Only one day before the September 20 release date of the new Bright Eyes album, Five Dice, All Threes, the band was forced to cancel a series of three record release shows promoting their album. Bright Eyes had a trio of shows planned to celebrate their album release in New York City, Chicago (at Riot Fest), and a hometown show in Omaha, Nebraska. Reports of the band’s warmup show in Cleveland earlier this week claim that frontman Conor Oberst was visibly intoxicated and forgot lyrics while not being able to play his guitar.

Bright Eyes announced their show cancellations on Instagram, writing, “We’re heartbroken to announce that our upcoming record release shows have been canceled. The warm up shows we played earlier this week resulted in Conor losing his voice and, on the advice of doctors, we’ve made the difficult but sensible decision to prioritize rest and recuperation for the remainder of the month. ‘Five Dice, All Threes’ is out on Friday and we couldn’t be more proud of it.” (Consequence of Sound)

Chester Bennington’s Mom Says She Feels “Betrayed” By Linkin Park And “Very Upset” By Reunion

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chester Bennington’s mom, Susan Eubanks, shares her thoughts on Linkin Park’s reunion and their new lead singer, Emily Armstrong. Eubanks feels “betrayed” by the band, revealing that no one told her about their plans to reunite. “They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know,” Eubanks says. “They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I wouldn't be very happy. I’m very upset about it.” Eubanks found out about the reunion via the internet, and tuned in to the band’s recent livestream show to hear Armstrong singing the late Bennington’s parts in their songs, before she quickly turned it off and started to cry. “I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past,” Eubanks shared. “They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.” (Billboard)

Jane’s Addiction Shares New Single, “True Love,” Days After Canceling Their Tour

Jane’s Addiction Shares New Single, “True Love,” Days After Canceling Their Tour

Jane’s Addiction picked an unfortunate time to release their brand new song, “True Love.” The track is the second new single recorded by the band’s reunited classic lineup, but it arrives only two days after the group canceled all the remaining dates on their current North American tour following an onstage band fight last week. Jane’s also shared an official lyric video for “True Love,” as well as the single artwork for the moody ballad.

One of the repercussions of Jane’s Addiction prematurely ending their tour is the opening acts missing out on paydays as well as exposure. Guitarist Dave Navarro addressed those concerns in his Instagram stories, writing, "I would personally like to apologize to Love and Rockets and Crawlers and their crews for such a terrible outcome of what started off as an incredibly magical tour. @loveandrockets are heroes of mine and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to perform on the same stage as them for as long as I did. It truly has been an honor." (Consequence of Sound)

Warrant Drummer Steven Sweet Admits Band’s “Cherry Pie” Video Was ‘Misogynistic’

In an interview featured in the just released Paramount+ docuseries, Nöthin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of '80s Hair Metal, Warrant drummer Steven Sweet looked back at the highly sexualized music videos of that era, especially the provactive one for Warrant’s provocative “Cherry Pie.” "Warrant was all about having fun without hurting anybody," says the 58-year-old Sweet. "I know we didn't think of it as a misogynistic video, although it was in hindsight." Bobbie Brown, the then-girlfriend of Warrant’s singer Jani Lane's, starred in the video, which featured her dressed in next to nothing while dancing around as she’s being hosed down throughout the clip. "I don't even know if that got flagged at the time,” said MTV executive Rick Krim in the documentary. “Objectifying women kind of became the rule. You look back at it now and you're like, 'How did we let them get away with that?'” (People)

Johnny Marr Responds to Morrissey’s Recent Claims About The Smiths: “It Was Left To Me To Protect The Legacy”

Johnny Marr Responds to Morrissey’s Recent Claims About The Smiths: “It Was Left To Me To Protect The Legacy”

Following Morrissey’s recent claims about the Smiths’ trademark status and rejected reunion offers, the band’s former guitarist Johnny Marr issued a response of his own on Instagram on Tuesday (September 17). Marr released a statement, “In the interests of accuracy and clarity,” because “recent statements made by Morrissey…are incorrect.” Apparently, in 2008 a third party attempted to use the Smiths name and Marr discovered that the trademark was not owned by the band. Marr secured the trademark himself after not hearing from Morrissey, but the assignment of joint ownership is still awaiting Moz’s signature. Marr dispels Morrissey’s claims that he will tour as the Smiths with a new lead singer, while going on to state, “To prevent third parties from profiting from the band’s name, it was left to me to protect the legacy. This I have done on behalf of both myself and my former bandmates. As for the offer to tour, I didn’t ignore the offer – I said no.” (Variety)

Morrissey Claims Johnny Marr Now Owns The Smiths Trademark, Can Choose New Vocalist

On Monday (September 16), Morrissey shared a statement on his website titled, “THE PLOT THICKENS,” which claims that his former bandmate, guitarist Johnny Marr, has “successfully applied for 100% trademark rights / Intellectual Property ownership of The Smiths name.” Morrissey disclosed that the move frees up Marr to “tour as The Smiths using the vocalist of his choice” while also “denying Morrissey considerable financial livelihood.” The statement also alleges that, “This action was done without any consultation to Morrissey, and without allowing Morrissey the standard opportunity of ‘objection.’”

In the last few weeks, Morrissey has claimed that after he accepted a “lucrative offer” to reunite the Smiths, Marr turned it down. Morrissey also says that Marr apparently stood in the way of a potential greatest hits album from the Smiths, as well as a deluxe box set reissue of their debut album. Marr hasn’t released a public statement regarding any of Morrissey’s recent claims. (Consequence of Sound)

In an Instagram statement on Monday (September 16), REO Speedwagon made the surprising announcement that the band will stop touring due to infighting within the group.
