Iggy Pop recently released a cover of Leonard Cohen‘s “You Want It Darker,” the title track from the legendary songwriter’s final album released in 2016.
“There’s nobody like Leonard, not in the whole world,” said Pop.
“You Want It Darker” is the latest cover single from Here It Is: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen, an album produced by Larry Klein that features covers of Cohen songs. The record includes contributions from Peter Gabriel, Sarah McLachlan, Luciana Souza, Mavis Staples, and David Gray.
Previously released singles include “Coming Back To You” by James Taylor, “Famous Blue Raincoat” by Nathaniel Rateliff, “Steer Your Way” by Norah Jones, and “Suzanne” by Gregory Porter.
“You Want It Darker” is the title track from Cohen’s fourteenth studio album You Want It Darker. The song earned the artist a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance and features the vocals of Cantor Gideon Zelermeyer and Shaar Hashomayim Choir.
You Want It Darker was Cohen’s last album released during his lifetime and was followed by the posthumous album Thanks for the Dance in November 2019.
