Rock icon Iggy Pop has revealed that he was once asked to join legendary hard rock band AC/DC.

In a new interview with the New York Times promoting his new studio album Every Loser, Pop recalled being approached by the manager of the Australian rock band.

“They had a manager many years ago, when I hadn’t reformed the Stooges, I hadn’t moved to England,” he recalled. “And this guy said, ‘Are you interested in joining AC/DC?’ They were looking for a singer.”

Pop says that he rejected the offer as he didn’t consider himself a good fit for the band.

“I listened to their record. I thought, I can’t fit that bill. I wasn’t like, ugh, I don’t like them. It was quite well made. They do careful work, but I’m not what they needed,” he explained.

Pop is set to release his 19th solo album, Every Loser, on January 6, 2023. The album will be released via Atlantic and the album’s Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum executive producer Andrew Watt‘s new label Gold Tooth Records.

Pop has already released two tracks from the album, including the album’s lead single and opening track “Frenzy,” featuring Red Hot Chili PeppersChad Smith on drums, Guns N’ RosesDuff McKagan on bass and Watt on guitar.
